After you have received a dental implant, Dr. Seth Rush will provide you with a temporary dental crown while waiting for your implant post to heal and for your permanent crown to be fabricated. For more information on temporary dental crowns in Kansas City, Missouri, and to make your appointment with our periodontist, please call our office at 816-444-8822.
Temporary crowns are provided to protect your injured tooth or implant post, prevent shifting of your remaining teeth, prevent tooth sensitivity, and to preserve and shape your gum tissue properly. Additionally, they offer a cosmetic benefit, completing your smile and allowing your teeth to function correctly. Temporary crowns are usually cemented in place with a soft dental cement, which allows them to remain stable while still being easy to remove when you receive your permanent crown. Temporary crowns are usually made of plastic or stainless steel.
While you have your temporary crown, you may experience some discomfort. We recommend the following actions to promote healing, prevent complications, and make yourself more comfortable:
- Brush and floss around your temporary crown. Be gentle in the affected area while brushing. While flossing, pull the floss gently through the space around your crown rather than popping it out from between the teeth.
- Rinse your mouth with a warm saltwater solution several times each day to help relieve discomfort.
- Use mild pain relievers. Please use all medications as directed.
Temporary crowns may occasionally come loose. If your crown loosens or falls out, please don’t worry. Just keep the temporary crown in a safe place and contact our office to come in and have it replaced.
